Portraiture Photography | Alicia Moore

If at first sight you feel that the name in the title of this post seems familiar then your feelings are correct. I have photographed Alicia a few times before and I’ve always had fun doing so. And while photographing her I have produced what I believe to be some great photos. If you would like to see the previous post, click the link below.

Recently I have been asking my followers on Twitter for some constructive criticism on my photographs, mainly my on portraits. The reason for this was because I have always felt that my portraits and by further extension, my photography, has always been lacking something. And I wasn’t exactly sure what it was.

One of the main things that I decided to changed with this shoot in comparison to most of my others was that I decided to only use my Canon prime lenses. As most of my photo shoots have been taken with my Sigma 18-50mm. I have recently found that the focusing on photographs that I have taken with that lens were not as sharp as they should have been. This was a point that was brought up by one of the lovely people who took time out of there day to look over my photographs and give me some helpful advice. I am going to place a link to their websites on the right hand side of this blog. If you wanted to look at their work. And I suggest that you do.

A few more points that were brought up was the fact that a bit of fill in flash will help with shadows around the eyes that occur in my photograph’s because I photographs quite a bit in natural light. This is new for me because I don’t usually use flash in my photographs, at all. And also, that finding interesting background was a must. These points were raised by Kristy at Burning Bright Studios. Chris Dorney said that some of my photographs reminded him of being psychogeographical. Which is good, because it gives me something to research. And I can also develop some of my future photography around this idea.

The photos of Alicia that I have included in this post were taken in Bromley. And I am very happy with these photographs. In this post I have included 10 photographs all taken with either a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 lens or a Canon EF 28mm f1.8 using a Canon EOS 50D digital SLR. Most of my digital work is made with the Canon but I have been considering in the future trying out other digital brands.

I have edited and touched up these photographs in image editing  software. This is not something that I usually do, but much like the reason for using flash, I needed the practice in my opinion. This blog post only has a selection of photographs from the shoot. In total there were 82 photograph which as you can imagine took some time, especially as I went to another photo shoot whilst editing these photographs. But I got them all done so I was happy with the photographs and my productivity.

I would also like to add that I am still up for receiving constructive criticism on my photography. There are details on how to get a hold of me on the ‘Contact’ page. I hope you enjoy the photographs. If you have any comments that you would to make or you are interested in getting photos done yourself then you can either leave a comment on this post or get a hold of me via the ‘Contact‘ page.
