General Photography | Bangor By Day

This is another instalment of the ‘Bangor By…’ series of photoblog posts that I have been placing on here. These photo blog posts are aimed at showing Bangor at different times of the day. This one has been called ‘Bangor By Day’ for obvious reasons. It is also them last of the three post that I have place up so that if you are reading the blog from top to bottom it will appear in some sort of chronological order in correspondence with how a day goes. With the other two posts the photos were taken with different cameras. The first one to be posted [Bangor By night] had photographs taken with a 35mm SLR using black and white film. The second [Bangor By Dusk] contained photos that were taken on my Digital SLR. And continuing along this vein, the photographs that have been placed in the post were taken on my compact digital camera.

The photos in this post as well as being taken on my compact camera [which in my opinion still have a decent quality to it] were also taken yesterday morning as I thought that it was a good time to go out for a walk and see what I could see about. One thing to note is that the front of the lens barrel was broken some time ago and although I superglued it back on all was fine I decided to do it slightly wrong because it created a sort of vignetting effect that you will see in the photos taken at the widest focal length.

On the photograph of the High Street [Stryd Fawr] you will notice that some of the lampposts have trees attached to them. This was in preparation for the carnival that was happening that day. The photograph of the building with the bus outside of it was of the Students Union which is to be torn down soon and so the photo of the window with the writing on it is of messages written by people who used to work there, some having worked there for years.

In this post I have included nine photographs. All of which you’ve probably guess were taken in Bangor. They were also all taken yesterday morning.

Portraiture Photography | William Bulteel

My flatmate will recently decided that he was going to give up on acting. So in the midst of a random conversation he asked me to produce some headshots for acting portfolio. I saw this as a challenge as I no longor had access to a studio so I drew up a couple of plans. I decided to go for the plan to buy an A2 [420 x 594 mm or alternatively 16.5 x 23.4 inches] white piece of card and sellotape it to the inside of the bathroom door.

The A2 white paper was used to create a smooth hi key [bright] background. There were two reasons for this decision. The first was so that the background would be smooth and totally free from distraction and the second reason was that having a lo key [dark] background would not have suited as he has dark hair and it would have blended too much with the background.

I made the decision to do the photographs in the bathroom, because it is the only room in the house with no source of natural light. This meant that I could control all of the light in the room. Giving me the ability to produce the shots I wanted without the chance of failure. The only lighting that I used was my Canon Speedlite 430EX and I bounced the light of of the ceiling to get the lighting I desired.

After I had taken the shot I resized the image to fit the 10×8″ ratio so that when he got them printed for his portfolio they would print perfectly. In this post I have included six photographs. All taken in my house in Bangor with a Canon EOS 50D using a Canon Speedlite 430EX and my Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens. Also, all the images are monochrome.

General Photography | Bangor By Dusk

This is the second in a three part series of photographs taken in and around the city of Bangor in North Wales. This set is mainly focusing on dusk and photographs taken around that time. All these photographs are taken by Bangor Pier. A place that I like to go to because of how relaxing it can be.

All these photographs, as well as being in and around the pier were also taken on my Canon EOS 50D using the Canon EF 28mm f1.8 Lens. I got this lens because it was the closest I could get in a Canon branded lens to a 50mm lens [on a 35mm camera]. Because I mainly used film camera when I started photography a 50mm fixed lens is what I was used to.

In this post I have included seven photographs. And like most of the photographs placed on this blog there has been no post processing except for the watermark that I have placed on the photos.
